Trade Descriptions

Millwright

We have two (2) classifications for millwrights, “A” and “general”.

Both positions require knowledge and understanding of mechanical prints and drawings, knowledge in proper use of construction tools and equipment and the ability to rebuild material handling equipment and machinery. The “A” millwright must be capable of layout, measuring and calculating with instruments to the 0.001″ range and capability to do light to meduim rigging along with ability to set and align plates, equipment, pumps and motors.

Civil Worker

This position requires the ability to read and understand form layout and rebar drawings, excellent rough carpentry skills, knowledge in proper use of related constuction tools and equipment, capable of layout, measuring, and calculating with carpentry tools to 1/16″, good understanding of grade and soil compacting, ability to place and tie rebar, good abilities at concrete placement and finishing.

Iron Worker

This position must have the ability to read and understand structural steel erection prints and drawings, have excellent climbing skills, excellent knowledge of proper steel connection techiques, knowledge in proper use of related construction tools and eqiupment, good rigging and crane signal ability, some structural layout and fitting ability, capable of layout and tying rebar.

Rigger

This position requires the ability to read and understand prints and drawings, have excellent climbing skills, good mechanical abilities, ability to read and understand crane lifting charts, ability to calculate load weights, understanding of rigging equipment limits and uses, excellent crane signal ability, good planning skills and some iron worker skills.

Pipe Fitter

This position requires the ability to read and understand prints and drawings, excellent layout skills, excellent math skills, knowledge of piping components, familiar with all forms of piping including threaded, socket weld and butt weld, understanding of hanger requirements and ability to fabricate and install hangers, capable of field running pipe, capable of performing excellent weld preps, familiar with different types of material including carbon steel, stainless steel, and chrome moly, knowledge in proper use of constuction tools and equipment and good light rigging skills.

Welder

We have varing classification of welders. These classifications range from basic Structural welders to Code welders.

All welders must have skills with cutting torch, layout skills with tape measure, level and square and skills with grinders and hand tools. Evaluation testing will be done prior to hiring to determine classification. Some tests used to determine classifications are:

  • FCAW or SMAW 3/8″ plate in horizontal, vertical and overhead positions
  • SMAW open root pipe with E6010 root and E7018 cover in the 6G position
  • 6″ sch 80 GTAW root and SMAW cover in 6G position
  • 2″ XXH GTAW root and SMAW cover in 6G position

Helper

This position requires a familiarity with the construction industry or trades, some mechanical abilities, familiarity with basic hand and power tools, basic skills with cutting torch, ability to follow direction well, interest in learning skills required to move into trades.

Laborer

This position is entry level and requires a limited knowledge of basic hand and power tools, limited or no knowledge of the construction industry or trades. The ability to follow direction is a must.

Fabricator

This position requires excellent layout skills, excellent abilities at operating various pieces of shop equipment, ability to perform sand blasting and painting operations, abilities to read and understand fabrication drawings, will require some welding abilities, excellent skills with grinders and hand tools and good rigging skills. This position will primarily work from the in-house shop.
